This illustrated study presents the wide-ranging work of Italian artist and designer Bruno Munari (1907-1998), whose practice encompassed painting, sculpture, graphic and industrial design, experimental books and visual communication. It explores his inventive approach to materials, typography, form and technology, including his experimental books, travelling sculptures, imaginary objects, xerographies and celebrated "useless machines". The illustrations convey Munari's characteristic combination of experimentation, functionality, humour and visual ingenuity. Bruno Munari was an influential Italian artist, designer, writer and educator whose work crossed the boundaries between fine art and everyday design. Drawing on the experimental spirit of Futurism, he developed an original approach to visual communication, industrial design and bookmaking.
