This photographic and historical publication documents Jewish cemeteries in the regions of Bohemia and Moravia, areas where Jewish communities existed for more than a millennium. The book presents numerous cemetery sites that remain as tangible traces of communities that disappeared through historical upheavals and demographic change. Through photographs and explanatory texts, the authors show the artistic and historical value of tombstones, epitaphs and burial landscapes. The work emphasizes that many of these cemeteries are among the last surviving witnesses of Jewish life in the former Czechoslovakia and aims to preserve their memory and cultural significance. Petr Ehl, Arno Parik and Jiri Fiedler were historians and researchers engaged in the study of Jewish history and heritage in the Czech lands. Their collaborative work focused on documenting Jewish monuments, cemeteries and cultural landscapes that survived the destruction of many Central European Jewish communities during the twentieth century. Through photographic surveys and historical analysis, their publications contribute to the preservation and scholarly understanding of Jewish heritage sites in Bohemia and Moravia.
