The volume brings together 21 scholarly contributions and memoirs that shed light on the historical, religious and cultural role of the saint in the spiritual formation of north-western Europe. Conceived as a collective tribute, the work is both historiographical and devotional in nature, characteristic of jubilee publications at the beginning of the 20th century.
