This exhibition catalogue documents the Sfumato exhibition of Belgian artist Laurent Reypens held at De Halle in Geel from 26 April to 8 June 2014. The book includes essays and commentary on Reypens? artistic exploration of simple everyday forms and the subtle interplay of light, colour and spatial rhythm in his work. Featuring illustrations from the exhibition and texts in Dutch German and English the catalogue situates his practice within contemporary art discourse and highlights the aesthetic concept of Sfumato as applied to still-life painting and visual composition. The Laurent Reypens ? sfumato publication is an exhibition catalogue for the Sfumato show held in Geel in 2014, part of the artistic output of Belgian artist Laurent Reypens. The catalogue includes texts by Ernest Van Buynder and others that explore Reypens? formal investigation of everyday objects, and in particular how ?sfumato? as an aesthetic mode informs his approach to light modulation, colour transitions, spatial composition and visual perception within still-life painting contexts. The book places Reypens? work within broader contemporary art frameworks, tracing the artist?s repeated focus on simple objects and how these become vehicles for subtle shifts in tone, depth and relational space. Illustrated throughout, the catalogue interweaves commentary with exhibition imagery and contextual essays that illuminate Reypens? practice for both specialist and general audiences. Laurent Reypens (b. 1954, Westerlo) is a Belgian painter and sculptor known for his sustained use of a simple everyday form - most notably the Royal Boch bowl - as a recurring motif through which he explores light, colour, repetition and spatial rhythm. His work has been exhibited widely in Belgium and abroad; the Sfumato catalogue documents one such cornerstone exhibition which reflects his minimalist yet dynamic engagement with form and abstraction. Reypens has shown work in a variety of solo and group contexts including Geel Venice Hanover and museums and galleries across Europe.
