In Slow Motion explores the infinite formal combinations of a single object - the white Royal Boch glass bowl - which Laurent Reypens repeatedly depicts in his paintings. In Reypens' work the bowl transcends its ordinary function and becomes a pure, sensual semisphere capable of absorbing and restoring light, acquiring volume through shadows, and reappearing in space through new combinations. The recurrence of this subject over more than thirty years testifies to the universality of its simple shape. Through this motif Reypens describes light and colour reflects on the meaning of painting and explores modern art experiences including symmetry and spatial rhythm. In Slow Motion is a richly illustrated art monograph presenting the work and visual philosophy of Belgian artist Laurent Reypens. Over approximately 240 pages the book shows Reypens' sustained focus on a single form - the Royal Boch white glass bowl - used as a foundational element to investigate the dynamics of light, shadow and colour in contemporary painting and sculpture. The publication positions these repeated forms as both formal study and visual meditation, demonstrating how subtle shifts in arrangement and context generate spatial rhythm and abstraction. Through high-quality reproductions and critical commentary edited by Demetrio Paparoni, the book situates Reypens? work within wider modern art discourse, emphasizing the artist's exploration of repetition, universality and narrative structure in visual art. Laurent Reypens (born 1954 in Westerlo, Belgium) is a painter and sculptor known for his contemplative and minimalist approach to everyday objects, most notably the white Royal Boch bowl, which he has deployed as a recurring motif in his work for decades. Reypens' art emphasizes simplicity tranquillity and formal repetition, using the bowl's pure semispherical form to explore light, colour and spatial composition. His work has been exhibited internationally including solo shows of series such as Sfumato and Slow Motion, and is featured in public and private collections across Europe. In Slow Motion was published in conjunction with an exhibition of his recent paintings and glassworks shown in venues such as the Henrad buildings in Herentals, Belgium, where the book was presented as part of the exhibition program.
