The work is written as a safety and prevention manual for miners in the coal mining industry. The content is divided into several sections, each focusing on different risk areas: these include hazards in shafts, during promotion and transport, rock and coal falls, suffocation, poisoning and explosions, as well as accidents above ground. The authors use many examples from real accidents: they base their work on the reports of accident investigations by the professional association at the time, which makes the descriptions realistic and instructive. The book contains a large number of illustrations and, in a concluding section, accidents are analysed quantitatively, comparing mining with other professions.
